Reishi Mushroom: Species, Constituents and Extraction Overview

Lifecykel • 16 September 2026

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is a fungus with a documented history spanning over 2,000 years in Chinese traditional practice, where it was referred to as Lingzhi. Its composition includes triterpenes, polysaccharides and beta-glucans.

Traditional Use

Reishi has a long-standing place in Chinese traditional practice as a general tonic. This reflects historical use rather than an established scientific outcome.

What the Research Looks At

Published research on Reishi has examined its triterpene and polysaccharide content in laboratory and small clinical studies, exploring interactions with immune cell activity and stress-response markers such as cortisol. This research uses isolated, concentrated extracts — a different preparation to a food-based flavouring product, and its findings shouldn't be read across to any Lifecykel product.

Reishi as a Flavouring

Lifecykel's Reishi product is a flavouring extract for adding to drinks as part of a routine, commonly an evening one. We don't make claims that our flavouring affects sleep, immune function, inflammation, cortisol levels or mood.

Safety Considerations

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication, speak with a healthcare professional before adding any new mushroom flavouring to your routine.
